My entire family had scabies because my dad had been in the hospital for cancer, and he caught it there. It essentially just slowly spread to everyone else. My father eventually passed away, but we still needed to get rid of the scabies.

Basically, we went to the doctors a few times after a few failed attempts with Permethrin, until I finally discovered from different forums that we needed to do more than just wash clothes, sheets, and put on Permethrin.
First off, we put Permethrin on more than once. Put it on one night, wash it off the next day, then put it on that night, and so on.. And then skip a while, and use it one last time.
I vacuumed absolutely everywhere as well (carpets, floors, couches, mattresses, etc). All sheets & clothes were washed with HOT water, and any that weren't were put into black trash bags, sealed tight, and left in another room. I'm pretty sure you only really need to leave them for about two weeks, but I left them for a month or two because I was just sick of the itching.
We washed all the pets too. I vacuumed by computer chair and put a towel on it as a small barrier.
Basically, just keep using the cream/medicine (definately more than once), wash and vacuum EVERYTHING, wash all pets, pack things up.. Just be careful with everything.
I've been scabies free for well over a year. :)
